ALAN R. SPLET BIOGRAPHY

Alan R. Splet is included in the I.R.S. Corner Website by virtue of his sonic creations and contribution to the cult David Lynch film ERASERHEAD. Webmeister Mr. Bill, himself a sound designer/editor for a now defunct cable channel and a freelance sound dweeb, rates Mr. Splet as his all time favorite inspiration and sound design role model.

He was considered by many to have been the world's greatest motion picture sound designer. His evocative use of ambient, technical and mechanical sounds helped revolutionize the way we hear movies, particularly in his work on virtually every David Lynch project. Splet died in 1994, after an illustrious career that garnered an Academy Award for THE BLACK STALLION and a nomination for NEVER CRY WOLF. In 2000 a sound effects CD collection was released by Soundelux. The collection was lovingly compiled by Mr. Splet's widow and long time collaborator, Ann Kroeber.
