ANTI-NOWHERE LEAGUE BIOGRAPHY

Call them hardcore punk, call them posuers, call them cartoon-biker-punks, heck, call them irresponsible! Bottom line: No one took these guys seriously (nor should they have), perhaps not even themselves! Anti-Nowhere League was more or less the UK's version of the late Wendy O Williams and her Plasmatics. Fronted by the frightening vocals of Animal (real name: Nick Karmer), who wore a spiked cod-piece (yikes!) and backed by Magoo, Winston and PJ, they wore out their welcome almost instantly after their well-received EP. From Turnbridge Wells, Kent in England, The League managed to get their records banned, their record company's and distributor's offices raided and perform live in Yugoslavia during Tito's reign. Not bad for a band that is considered a joke.

Later in their career they cleaned up their appearance somewhat, but it certainly didn't help their musicianship... They have managed to continue performing from time to time, though they "officially" broke up in 1987. Magoo has done solo work apart from the League.

This record is a difficult listen, even if you're into rough thrashing unskilled hardcore. Of the songs on this EP, their cover of "Streets Of London" is the best, but that's not saying much. The rest is more or less your typical punk rant & drivel, though not as skillfully delivered as their contemporaries... What does make it fun, however, is how clear it is these guys are not serious at all, and yet they got signed to record labels more than once! "So What?" was covered by Metallica as one of their B-sides, which shouldn't be too surprising as the song is about beastiality (among other vices). The whimsical "I Hate... People" and "Let's Break The Law" prove either that A)these guys are joking or B)they are in serious need of mental help!
