A nice intro for the Horizon series, but this isn't up to the usual standards of the Jones/Lewis band. Two songs really stand out, though - "The Farewell", featuring Janice Robinson's funky plunger trombone solo, and "A Good Time Was Had By All", where Thad Jones takes on a nice flugelhorn solo and Jon Faddis doubles himself in the upper stratosphere towards the end. While this seems to be a tribute to Louis Armstrong on cover, there really isn't anything in the music that has to do with Armstrong at all.
