| Dave Frishberg was *just* telling me about taping this special when he performed in concert at a performing arts series I host in Portland. |

Just wondering why Herb didn't introduce the rest of the 'TJB'....most notably Bob Edmondson and Julius Wechter. _________________ If I had one dollar for every time I listened to a TJB song, then I would be right up there with Bill Gates!! |

He did. If you'll notice Herb says, "Now I'd like to introduce the other members of the brass..."
He'd earlier introduced Findley and Edmondson and (in a separate humorous skit) introduced Julius, mentioning he was the composer of "Spanish Flea" and other TJB tunes. They introduced "Coney Island" saying "our newest tune, 'Coney Island'" after which Herb asked Julius, "what part of New York are you from again?" to which Julius replied, "Chicago."

| Lani used that same joke on one of her last appearances with Brasil '66, on a David Frost Show (I'd love to see that again), when David asked her, "What part of Brasil are you from?" |

I may be wrong, but I believe Bill Dana wrote that gag. He wrote most of the humor material the early (adult contemporary) A&M acts used on the road...

Lots of web traffic, most likely from people getting off work. I ran the clips this afternoon with no problem. Try later in the evening. _________________ Mike B. |

Ah! "Vento Bravo"!!! I love this version from the TV special. I remember beng rather disappointed when the LP version failed to make the same impression on me...

That 1974 TV special is also famous for being the debut of a certain female performer -- the Muppets' Miss Piggy!

Thanks for posting this clip.

I had the same reaction to this. I felt the album version lacked something in the way of what I thought the song's "potential" was. This clip has more of the "energy" that the album version seems to lack.
I will admit, however, that I haven't heard the album version for some time - it would be nice to see Coney Island get reissued on CD or at least as a download. |

I had a similar reaction at first, but I love the Coney Island version much better. It's much closer to the version Edu Lobo first did, as well as the Lobo/Jobim collaboration (with a scorching flugelhorn solo).
