I Know My First Name Is Stephen
Has anyone noticed that the album version of this song (while featuring the same drum track and count in from Karen as on the demo) is at a totally different speed (and resulting slightly higher key) compared to the demo version? The demo obviously features the original vocal take but has anyone ever asked Richard why the finished version was speeded up for the album? It almost reminds me of the same fate that befell the medley on side A of the Singles 1969-1973 collection.

To make the two match, speed up the demo version by 2.8% - then the two versions sync up almost exactly until the final drum solo.

Could be differences in tape machine speeds - could be that Richard wanted to raise the key for one reason or another - or it just might be that given the more sophisticated equipment at A&M, Richard just wanted to make it better.
