An email from a member prompted me to recently dig out the ULTIMATE COLLECTION from the UK. Recall that the earlier Netherlands version of THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION featured all original album mixes taken from the Remastered Classics series. It was then issued in the UK with mostly modern remixes.
I admitted that I hadn't listened much to the UK version, but had basically skimmed through it and filed it on the shelf next to the other ULTIMATE COLLECTION.
So I was listening to it yesterday on the way to work, and heard something different about "Top Of The World." The final two notes sounded different to me, as did the mix in general.
In doing a bit of investigating this morning, I concluded that the mix found on this ULTIMATE COLLECTION was the 2004 stereo mix from the SACD of CARPENTERS SINGLES 1969-1981.
There are four basic mixes of the song and a few minor variations within each mix.
(1). The original album mix.
(2). The original single mix.
(3). The '90s remix.
(4). The 2004 remix.
