Terry Knight, 61, leader of Terry Knight and the Pack -- an early A&M singles artist -- and later manager of Grand Funk Railroad, was found by officers who responded to a disturbance Monday night (11/1/04) in Temple TX.
Knight, 61, had been stabbed several times, and officers performed CPR but could not save him.
He left Grand Funk following a contract dispute and had been inactive in music in recent years.
KWTX television of Waco quoted Grand Funk Member Don Brewer -- who had not spoken to Knight in 30 years --as "shocked" by Knight's death and said he had been instrumental in creating and marketing the band.
Knight was born Richard Terrance Knapp 4-9-43 in Flint, MI.
He had shared the apartment where the incident took place, Chappell Hill Apts. at 3009 Ira Young, with a daughter and her boyfriend, Donald Alan Fair, 26.
He has been charged with murder, the TV station reported.
