Thought I'd try and lighten the mood here a little with a new topic.

Whether you were listening to the radio in the 1970's like some of us, or are retro 70's music fans, tell us what your favorite 70's love songs were - Carpenters or otherwise. I suspect for most of us our most favorite will be K&R though.

This topic comes to you courtesy of the Barry Manilow song I had stuck in my head this morning: Daybreak. (Singin' to the World) Hadn't heard it in years. How does that happen?

Since narrowing down Carpenters' songs would be way too hard, I am not even going to try. Here are 10 of my favorite 70's love songs by artists other than K&R in no particular order:

I'd Really Love To See You Tonight - England Dan & John Ford Coley
Sharing The Night Together - Dr. Hook
How Deep Is Your Love - Bee Gees
The Rose - Bette Midler
Danny's Song - Anne Murray/Loggins & Messina
It's One Of Those Nights (Yes Love) - The Partridge Family
Stumblin' In - Suzi Quatro & Chris Norman
I Honestly Love You - Olivia Newton-John
Somewhere In The Night - Helen Reddy/Barry Manilow
You Don't Have To Be A Star (To Be In My Show) - Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr.

I'd Really Love To See You Tonight: England Dan & John Ford Coley
Sharing The Night Together: Dr Hook
You Don't Have To Be A Star: Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr
Nice To Be With You: Gallery
You Are The Woman: Firefall
Could It Be I'm Falling In Love: Spinners
Still The One: Orleans
Get Closer: Seals & Crofts
Let's Stay Together: Al Green
Temptation Eyes: The Grassroots
Your Smiling Face: James Taylor
Everytime I Think Of You: Baby's
I Like Dreamin': Kenny Nolan
Moonlight Feels Right: Starbuck
Laughter In The Rain: Neil Sedaka
Everything I Own: Bread

Sorry, had a tough time picking just 10! You have outstanding taste Actorman, just made a CD last week and three of our songs are a match! I chose "I Think I Love You" as my Partridge Family choice over "I Woke Up In Love This Morning" and "It's One Of Those Nights", difficult decision.

Right Time Of The Night
(You're Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher
Only Yesterday
Love Will Keep Us Together
You're My World
Looks Like We Made It
Emotion
A Little More Love
Too Much, Too Little, Too Late
I'll Never Love This Way Again

A word about Moonlight Feels Right. In the mid-90s (4 kids ago) I waited tables at an Atlanta restaurant & the house jazz combo on the weekends was the Elgin Wells Group. Elgin was a member of Starbucks & a co-writer of that song. Elgin had a good voice in his ow right.

Nice coincidence Aero bob. Though Starbuck only had one Top 40 hit with "Moonlight" (#3), they were a an excellent opening act for a lot of bands in the late 70's and even had a few television appearances like the Midnight Special due to the success of the song. I think the marimba solo won me over!

^ "My Little Town", "Sara Smile" and "Who Loves You" would be on my list of favorites and I forgot "It's A Miracle" by Barry Manilow and "She's Gone" by Hall & Oates. Was trying to keep with the love song theme with my initial picks, "Play That Funky Music" and "Get Down Tonight" would be my 70's dance selections.

"Any Major Dude" - Steely Dan

JUST KIDDING!

Seriously, though... I agree with Actorman in that there are so many great love songs from the '70s or Carpenters that it's hard to pick a list of "favorites" without including them all. Sorry, but I can't do just 10. I can limit it to one song per artist/group, I guess.
Whwww... Ok. Here goes (in no particular order):
Last Song - Edward Bear
Could It Be I'm Falling In Love - The Spinners

Again, members have covered pretty much all of the best 1970's love songs.
And, of course, this is another difficult list for me to create!
But, some that come to mind---and, some have already come up--

LeBlanc and Carr-- Falling (The album is terrific, by the way)
Kenny Nolan--- I Like Dreamin'
Doctor Hook--Sharing the Night Together
Terry Jacks--Seasons In The Sun (does that one count as a love song?)
Bread--If
Neil Diamond--Play Me
Three Degrees--When Will I See You Again
Alan O'Day--Undercover Angel
Exile--I Wanna Kiss You All Over

Any love song by: Olivia Newton-John, Helen Reddy , Bee Gees, or Billy Joel sits very well with me!
Any love song by: Barry Manilow or Anne Murray I can definitely do without!
