In my biography of Herb Alpert, I’m puzzling over writing about him marrying Lani Hall in… what year?
Some sources say 1973. For instance, this site - http://chicagotonight.wttw.com/2013/06/06/herb-alpert-lani-hall - says they married on December 16, 1973.
Others say 1974. For instance, The Herb Alpert File by Steve O’Rourke page 66 says that they registered for marriage in Malibu in January of 1974, and were married in March of 1974.
It was months before I found a possible explanation for that discrepancy, in an interview with Alpert on “The Download.” If you watch this video...
...and skip ahead to 15:35, you’ll hear Alpert say “We’ve been married actually three times. We married ourselves once, we… got married with a Rabbi once, and we got married by a priest [something I can’t make out] in Hawaii.”
So my question is: Which wedding occurred in which year?
